There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
