There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gambling is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that contains many comforts aside from the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
