There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities aside from the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
